Trump Administration Launches TRIPP Corridor to Transform South Caucasus Trade

Vice President J.D. Vance's February 2026 visit to the South Caucasus advanced implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), a strategic transportation corridor that forms a key component of the peace framework signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan in August 2025.

President Trump signed the historic peace agreement with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, committing to end decades of conflict in the South Caucasus. The TRIPP corridor moves through Armenia and connects Azerbaijan with its exclave Nakhchivan, creating new trade routes between Europe and Asia.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Vice President's visit resulted in agreements on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, defense, and capacity building, unveiling multi-billion-dollar projects in AI and nuclear energy sectors. These initiatives represent significant U.S. commercial engagement in the region.

The Department of Commerce secured a record $25 billion in foreign government procurement contracts for U.S. companies in Central Asia during 2025, with South Caucasus cooperation expanding economic ties in critical minerals, information and communications technology, and energy sectors.

TRIPP's development complements the ongoing Trans-Caspian International Transport Route spanning Central Asia and the South Caucasus by creating an additional westward outlet for critical minerals, energy, and other goods traveling between Eurasia and Europe. The corridor's strategic significance extends beyond economic benefits to geopolitical stability in a region long characterized by territorial disputes and frozen conflicts.
