U.S. Commerce Department Secures $25 Billion in Central Asia Contracts

The U.S. Department of Commerce secured a record $25 billion in foreign government procurement contracts for American companies in Central Asia during 2025, marking a significant expansion of U.S. economic engagement in the strategically important region.

The contracts span multiple high-priority sectors including critical minerals, information and communications technology (ICT), energy infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing, reflecting Washington's strategy to deepen commercial ties while countering Chinese and Russian influence in Central Asia and the South Caucasus.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the procurement success followed President Trump's August 2025 peace framework between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which included the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) transportation corridor designed to facilitate trade between Europe and Asia through the South Caucasus.

Vice President J.D. Vance's February 2026 visit to the region resulted in agreements on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, defense, and capacity building, unveiling multi-billion-dollar projects that build on the initial $25 billion procurement foundation. These initiatives position U.S. companies to supply advanced technology and infrastructure solutions across the region.

The Central Asia focus aligns with broader U.S. strategic priorities including securing supply chains for critical minerals essential to technology manufacturing, expanding digital infrastructure to support economic development, and providing alternatives to Chinese Belt and Road Initiative projects. American companies are particularly competitive in high-technology sectors, energy services, and specialized manufacturing equipment.
