TBC Bank Posts 14th Straight Quarter Above 23% ROE as Georgia Loans Hit GEL 29B

TBC Bank Group delivered its 14th consecutive quarter of return on equity above 23% in the second quarter of 2026, reporting net profit of GEL 386 million, up 12% year-on-year, according to results presented on August 6 and detailed by Investing.com.

Georgia does the work

The group's home market remains the profit engine: Georgian operations generated 95% of total earnings in the quarter. Gross loans in Georgia grew 14% year-on-year to GEL 29.0 billion, led by an 18% expansion in retail lending. TBC holds roughly 37% market share in both loans and deposits, keeping it the largest player in the Georgian banking market.

The macro backdrop helps. Georgia's real GDP grew 7.9% in the first half of 2026, and TBC Capital maintains a full-year forecast of 7.4% — among the strongest growth rates in the wider region.

Targets reaffirmed

Management reaffirmed its 2026–2028 guidance: loan book growth above 15% annually, ROE above 23%, and a dividend payout ratio of 25–45%. Fourteen straight quarters above the ROE bar is unusual by any emerging-market standard, and it has kept the investment case for Georgian bank stocks alive with international private clients, as BM.GE notes.

What to watch

Two things could test the streak. First, the arithmetic of scale: sustaining 23%+ returns on a loan book compounding at mid-teens rates becomes harder each year. Second, concentration: with 95% of earnings coming from one small, open economy, TBC's results are effectively a leveraged bet on Georgian growth — spectacular while transit volumes and tourism hold up, exposed if the cycle turns.

For now, though, the second quarter reads as another data point in a consistent story: Georgian banking remains one of the most profitable franchises between Europe and Central Asia.
