Azerbaijan-Georgia trade jumps 41% as non-oil exports surge

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Georgia reached $385.5 million in the first four months of 2026, a 41.3 percent increase — some $112.6 million — over the same period a year earlier, according to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee. The jump underscores how tightly the two South Caucasus economies are becoming linked as regional trade and transit corridors expand.

The growth was led by Azerbaijani exports, which rose 44.8 percent to $340.3 million, while imports from Georgia grew a more modest 19.1 percent to $45.3 million. Most striking was the composition: non-oil exports to Georgia surged 66.3 percent, climbing from $105.8 million to $175.9 million — evidence that Baku's long-stated diversification push is gaining traction in at least one key market.

Georgia ranked as Azerbaijan's sixth-largest trading partner over the period, accounting for 2.22 percent of total trade turnover. Modest in absolute terms beside Azerbaijan's energy trade with Europe and Turkey, the bilateral relationship nonetheless carries outsized strategic weight: Georgia is the indispensable transit link connecting Azerbaijani goods and hydrocarbons to Black Sea ports and onward to European markets.

The trade data lands alongside deepening energy ties — Azerbaijan remains Georgia's dominant gas supplier — and reinforces the two countries' shared stake in the Middle Corridor, the trans-Caspian route positioning the South Caucasus as a bridge between Asia and Europe.
